The Dutch mezzosoprano Janneke Schaareman started as a young girl singing in childrens choirs and soon felt attracted to the stage and so started to sing solo. Starting singinging lessons at the conservatory she sung her first classical repertoire and continued studying classical singing. During - and after her studies Janneke performed in operas such as Carmen (G. Bizet - Carmen), The Magic Flute (WA Mozart - Third Lady) conducted by Tilo Lehmann, Orfeo ed Euredyce (W.Gluck - Orfeo), Dido and Aeneas (H. Purcell - Sourceress), sang in The Merry Widow (F. Lehar) with the Gelders Orchestra, conducted by Martin Sieghart and in "Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda" (C. Monteverdi - Tancredi) conducted by Kees Koelmans. Her repertoire include as well roles such as Dorabella and Idamante (Mozart), Oktavian and The Composer (Strauss) and Charlotte (Massenet), amongst others.
Nov 2013 Janneke made her debut as Carmen as an ensemble member of Opera Zuid.
Janneke has sung contemporary operas in productions of YO! (International Youth Opera), Chamber Operahouse Zwolle and Fast Opera Productions. With the Utrecht Wind Ensemble she sang music of Louis Andriessen (Hadewych) and John Adams (Grand Pianola) and will be performing the titlerole in the Dutch opera De Ijsvorstin (The Icequeen) in 2014 with theatrecompany Tryater.
Until 2010, she was part of the music theatre ensemble Xantippe, for which she produced and performed shows in small theaters in the Netherlands and Belgium, by public and press enthusiastically received.
Janneke made in 2012 her debut at Concertgebouw Amsterdam in Mahlers 2nd Symphony with the Philips Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jules van Hessen. She was invited to sing Mahlers Zarathustra’s Nachtlied in an arrangement of Kerry Woodward. Janneke is as well regularly is invited as a soloist in oratoria such as Duruflé's Requiem, Mozart's Requiem and Oratorio de Noël Saint Saëns conducted by Bas van den Heuvel and sang Bach conducted by Gijs Leenaars and Gerrit Maas.
Janneke completed her Bachelor and Masters degrees at the Conservatory in Arnhem, ArtEZ (the Netherlands). She studied voice with Tom Sol, Elena Vink and Harry van Berne and participated in interpretation classes by Carolyn Watkinson. During her Masters study she specialized in Romantic repertoire with an emphasis on Lied, ranging from Richard Strauss to arrangements of folk music. After her graduation she traveled to Hungary to participate in the International Bartók Festival where she received coachings in the Hungarian language and repertoire of Zoltán Kodaly by Adrienne Csengery.
Janneke participated Materclasses and coachings in Lied and Opera with Allison Pearce, Jard van Nes, Sylvia Schlüter, Caren van Oyen, Meinard Kraak, John Norris, Thomas Michael Allen and Ira Siff, with whom she currently continues her coaching.
